The Opelousas Area Cerebral Palsy Clinic, a United Way agency, is gearing up for its annual fund raiser, the 8th Annual Tribute to Lois Boagni.

Along with holding a fund raiser, the clinic is paying tribute to the memory of Mrs. Lois Boagni for her years of dedicated work and service for the clinic.

The 8th Annual Tribute to Lois Boagni will be held on June 20, 1998 from 8 pm to 1 am at the Delta Grand in Opelousas.  There will be musical entertainment, a buffet and a cash bar.

The clinic is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, quite a milestone!  Through these years, the clinic has been providing physical therapy to children and adults with cerebral palsy, free of charge.  This has been possible through the generosity of our community, along with the hard work and dedication of people such as Mrs. Boagni, who has touched many lives.

One life touched by Mrs. Boagni is Kenny Meche, a recent winner of the Opelousas Chamber of Commerce's Male Humanitarian of the Year Award.

Kenny started this annual fund raiser in 1991 in memory of Mrs. Boagni.  Many others have helped each year in making each tribute a success.

As a result of the work done by countless people on the annual tribute and the work done at the clinic, the physical therapy provided to children and adults with cerebral palsy has made an impact on their lives.  What comes easily to most people usually comes hard for someone with cerebral palsy.  With proper therapies and assistance, along with the acceptance of society, people with cerebral palsy can achieve a great deal and lead productive, meaningful lives.

This community's generosity to the Opelousas Area Cerebral Palsy Clinic has made a difference in many lives, including that of my daughter, Alison.  She has learned to do many things since first starting at the clinic in 1991, including walking.  She has blossomed into a free spirited, beautiful young girl, who enjoys life.

I thank this community for it continued generosity in helping those with cerebral palsy.
